October letters from Mom

 October 1, 2024

Hola amiga,

Hey sis, maleck and I just finished reading 3 Nephi 12 for our companionship study- it was fire.  I was hit hard by the spirit when I read 3 Nephi 12:16 - I knew it was meant for you- “therefore, let your light shine before people, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven”.”

That’s for you Em… go let you light shine in Tinjunga- help the people there find joy, help your companions find joy- you’ve totally got this.

I will have a prayer in my heart for you all day!  I love you and I am proud of you!

God speed

Good morning,

Hi Em,

How are you? You have been in my thoughts constantly.  I  am anxious to hear how Tujunga is(I googled it last night and it seems lovely). I want to hear about your new place, your landlord, your companions, training - everything. Of course I prayed for you everyday- in the morning, at night and every time I rolled over.

I feel like the days are rolling into each other, and I find it hard to remember what I have been doing. The temperatures are slowly dropping- and I mean it- slowly, and the Autumn leaves are in full splendor. Last week was long as it was CCR week.  Thankfully, I only had one parent yell at me- I will tell you all about that on Monday. However, I had lots of students come into get their grades up.

Steele’s arrival was of course the highlight of the week… the month. He is so sweet and precious.  They say the nights are hard. I told them to come over last night for a sleep over and I would take the night shift, but they didn’t. That’s okay.  I am tell they are trying to keep the balance with the Cardon’s and that’s okay.

Maleck bleached his hair- ugh. But I  just trying to remember the hair doesn’t make the man. We have great scripture study this past week.  And as we were reading in 3 Nephi about prayer, 🙏🏻 discovered he leads the team in prayer before each game. And I quote, “drop your helmets and take a knee.” He is trying to decide if he should drop Spanish and take rec b-ball- what do u think?

Madsen and dad are in Wyoming hunting with gpa- madsen me a girl from snow college on richfield for a date- I guess that is progress, but he isn’t talking about it.

Stockton, Amanda and Steele are adjusting. They are the cutest! I am so proud of them.

Seleck, leydi, and Bella have enjoyed so many adventures in Peru. Yesterday they celebrated his leyd’s grandfather’s 89th birthday.  I  glad they went , but  I am anxious for them to come home.

Dad… hmm he is okay. I hope he is having fun hunting.  He is such a great dad, husband, and provider. We are so lucky.

Grandparents are good. They all came to Maleck’s game on Thursday. Yesterday gpa weaver made 6 pies. Gpa weaver is getting stronger.

I am loving  conference. The story about the lady who had her purse stolen with a Book of Mormon in it, and the thief read it and joined the church has been my favorite so far. I have taken copious notes and I can’t wait to reread them and to listen to the talks again in the days to come. Yesterday, these are the topics I zeroed in on- temple attendance, Book of Mormon, Joseph smith and repentance- loved them all. President Freeman’s was my favorite🩷

I love you Emma. Thanks for the flowers. Jaime’s mom brought them the night the parent yelled at me so it was perfect timing! They are still alive and blooming. You are the BEST!

Talk to you tomorrow!
God speed.xoxoxo,

Hola Amiga,

Hi sis, I just walked to the mailbox, and it is pretty dark outside... getting spooky.  The Halloween tik tok you shared was fun.  I hope you enjoyed the ward party.  I am excited to talk to you tomorrow, and catch up on your mission adventures.

I apologize that this letter is late.  Madsen and I just returned from deer camp in Arizona.  It was a fun trip, but short.

Here is the weekly update

Monday- returned from Oregon at midnight (so it was actually Tuesday).  We will definitely have to go back there.  You will love it.

Tuesday- Back to the grind.  I got your letter.  It really brightened my day.  I took it to school, and I put it by my desk so I can read it often. I took my creative writing kids to Kolob on a field trip- mini retreat- so fun!

Wednesday- Back at the grind again, not much to report.  My student teacher does not have quite the passion for Gatsby as I do- super sad.

Thursday- School- schmool- I went to the temple- I was late, I forgot my recommend, and my names printed wrong, but it worked- I loved being there.  I stopped by to visit gma and gpa for a minute- they are doing great.  Said goodbye to dad before he left for Ariz.

Friday- School went quickly.  I helped my student teacher prep for the next two weeks and entered some data on Performance matters- The Superintendent is big on data.  We had a tailgate before the state play off game- we won the game.  Maleck is on kick off return and he got in on a few plays on offense.  Drove to Arizona

Saturday- hunting/camping was fun- It was more of a road hunt, so I  ate a lot and moved little.

Family update:
Daddy- still a little sad.  I am glad he is hunting and away from his emails.

Stockton, Amanda, and Steele- still adjusting.  They joined us camping.  It was fun.  I am still trying to figure out grandma boundaries.  It is a lot easier with Bella

Seleck and Leydi- I had a great visit on the phone with them just now.  So proud of them and their progress.  They have a little side business which pays all of their rent.  They miss living by us.  They would love to live in Peru part time and in our basement- who knows maybe when Maleck is out of high school.  They are trying to save for a house.

Madsen- progressing.  He is hoping to move out in January, save money for grad school, and then enter grad school in the fall.  Keep praying for him.

Maleck- he seems a little sad and lonely. I am seeing all the classic "sophomore" boy warning signs- ugh.  We read scriptures nightly as much as we can.

I am totally off my no sugar, no carb diet and I feel like crap, but it was fun to eat the junk while it lasted. Pray for me! Working on my prayers- prepping for sunday school lesson this week.

I got home after having not showered for three days, and I took a hot shower and then a hot bath.  The air has turned chilly here- what shall I wear tomorrow?

Can't wait to talk to you tomorrow!  I miss you so BIG, but seriously you are in the right place for right now.  Keep running toward Jesus- Jesus is HOPE.

Love you lots!
XOXOXOXO,
mama
