A note from dad

 October 1, 1014

Hermana Rigby,
In your next race, I need you to avoid self doubt and fear. I need you to lead and rise to your potential! It is time you remember the lessons of the past - as If you are a team captain once again! The key for you to shine bright is to avoid hiding your light under a bushel! Let your light so shine before men, and women, and other missionaries!

Your key is to be faithful, humble, and avoid doubting yourself!  Elder Holland: “Around the Church I hear many who struggle with this issue: “I am just not good enough.” “I fall so far short.” “I will never measure up.” I hear this from teenagers. I hear it from missionaries.”

“ I also know that, as children of God, we should not demean or vilify ourselves, as if beating up on ourselves is somehow going to make us the person God wants us to become. No! With a willingness to repent and a desire for increased righteousness always in our hearts, I would hope we could pursue personal improvement in a way that doesn’t include getting ulcers or anorexia, feeling depressed or demolishing our self-esteem. That is not what the Lord wants for Primary children or anyone else who honestly sings, “I’m trying to be like Jesus.”

This means it is time to ENJOY your next race!!!

He continues,
“Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him … ,” Moroni pleads. “Love God with all your might, mind and strength, then … by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ.”
“Except for Jesus, there have been no flawless performances on this earthly journey we are pursuing, so while in mortality let’s strive for steady improvement without obsessing over what behavioral scientists call “toxic perfectionism.” We should avoid that latter excessive expectation of ourselves and of others”

Be bright Hermana! Believe in your preparation because you have traveled far and have learned much. Love to love and forgive quickly!  Do not allow negative thoughts to enter as they will diminish your light and make you withdraw. You are now the leader of your next race. Set the pace and allow others to lead as much as possible. Your influence can be felt from the front and from behind. Your self confidence, your light, your smile, and  your encouragement is needed in the lives of others.

My last area I finally learned the value of inspiring others so they rise and lift the light of Christ higher so more can see. Do this together and not alone. His spirit will be brighter together! This journey is not about you, but the Master molding you and others into masterpieces that draw others to Him.

Enjoy your pre-race jitters and nerves. The gun will go off and you find and set the pace that will help your companions PR. You can then believe that you will have won your race!

Enjoy your transfer day! I believe in you and He believes in you! So YOU believe in yourself!

Loves,Daddy Travis
